Week 6 - Waka Tairawhiti
WAKA TAIRAWHITI
We are so lucky to have access to the floating classroom, Waka Tairawhiti, in Gisborne. Room 4 took advantage of hoisting the sail up and down, exploring below deck, and learning about muster stations. We are looking forward to carrying on learning with the kaiako on the Waka Tairawhiti, and are excited to welcome Matua Chris into our class in Week 7 to learn about ropes, knot tying and more so that the tamariki are prepared when they are old enough to go out into the bay as Year 7's.
Titirangi Hill History
Room 4 enjoyed learning a bit more about the history of the Titirangi Hill area, while walking up the pathways. In class we had talked about what they already knew about Titirangi Hill, then once we stopped to catch our breath I shared with them some historical stories and asked them to find places from the stories on the map.
Comment below if you would like to join us on Waka Tairawhiti next time, it is such an interesting learning experience.
