Term 3 highlights - Hauora
Hauora
What a fantastic inquiry topic we have this term! We have kicked it off with some fun activities which were also building up the concept of Hauora before really discussing it further.
The learners were given a challenge to create a whare using each other and once done I asked them what would happen if a wall, the floor or ceiling failed. They were able to answer in a range of ways and once we were back in class they shared their thoughts about the different aspects of Hauora.
Noho at Te Poho o Rawiri Marae
What a wonderful experience it was to be welcomed onto the Marae that our school is connected to, all of the tamariki were able to access their knowledge from kapa haka practice to navigate the tikanga of the marae and conducted themselves in a way we can all be proud of. A highlight for many, after the shy hongi, was hearing the stories of the local ancestors and singing a fun new song.
Over the time spent there, there were many opportunities for authentic and culturally relevant learning for the tamariki. This included weaving harakeke, a hikoi of Titirangi hill with a historical lesson of the local iwi, art with the mobile Museum staff and performing to the whanau who came to visit in the evening.
At Te Poho o Rawiri Marae there were different fun rotations and weaving was one of them. Some people went to do weaving. |
