Term 4 Highlights
Culture City
As a class we were busy from the get go this term, highlights include the learners running a Student Volunteer Army Project independently with support from adults, performing in the Tairawhiti Cultural Festival kapa haka ropu, preparing for the Craft Fair and visiting the Marine Reserve, Te Tapuwae o Rongokako. Amongst this we had our usual learning across the curriculum where learners chose to read about different cultures and as we drew towards the end of year it was time to reflect on the growth that each individual had pursued and celebrated what they'd achieved in our time together in Room 4.
SVA - helping those in need, a visit to Leighton House rest home residents.
After a very fair voting process it was determined we would like to visit patients at the hospital, but, this was not possible. The learners were a little let down but picked themselves up and voted again, this time Residents of Leighton House rest home were determined to be the recipients of our visit. The class was a hustle and bustle of ideas, planning, preparing, testing out ideas, mapping and collecting resources. I had to step back and support them and on returning to school, applauded them for the way they organised the day, conducted themselves when interacting with the residents and generally spread joy with our delightful elderly community. Games were played, stories were shared, a birthday was celebrated and songs of entertainment and farewell were sung and supported by the ukulele girls.
A big thank you to all the whanau of the tamariki in Rooom 4, it has been a pleasure to learn alongside of your tamariki and I look forward to seeing their learning journey continue to progress!
