Lots of potential energy in Room 4.

Lots of potential... energy in Room 4.

It has been another week full of new learning and learning to work with others.  Room 4 are quickly getting the hang of new routines and expectations.

To kick off the day on Wednesday, Room 4 took part in a scavenger hunt.  First they needed to buddy up with a partner and then it was time to get into it.  They hunted for dictionaries, facts from our garden signs, scissors, art supplies and more.  Part orientation of the school, classroom and our items and part fun.

In Pangarau the tamariki learned a new game that required lots of logical thinking and strategy.  Challenge your child to a game of Sprouts and see how you go.

Another of our learning opportunities using the House of Science Flexi Physics required the tamariki to measure a stretchy set of Flexo blocks before and after it was stretched and record the data in a table.  Many maths skills were demonstrated while finding out that the more tendons the blocks had, the harder it was to stretch and that less tendons was easier to stretch.

The House of Science Flexi Physics learning saw Room 4 explore the ideas of Potential energy in it's different forms and, how potential energy is converted into different types of energy.  After thoroughly reading the instructions the tamariki got their safety googles, dropper popper and ping pong ball.  What a fun way to explore how elastic potential energy and gravitational energy can convert into kinetic energy!

We will continue to explore the physics concepts of energy this week, learners will use what they learnt from the Flexo blocks to make the best sling shot they can.  Look out for our upcoming blog post.
