Robots drop into stories.

Bee Bots in the Jungle.

We have been busy bees in Honu!  For Panui this week each group read a big book and once we got to the end the tamariki had to visualise and retell the main places, events and characters that featured in the story.  Following on from that the tamariki used blank comic strips to draw the sequence of events in the right order and cut them out.

These images were then placed on the grid the tamariki had made on the carpet using tape.  Each square on the grid measured 15cm by 15cm (as the bee bot moves 15cm with each forward or backward command).

The tamariki then had to programme the bee bot to move around the grid from one picture to the next in the order that the events occurred!  Mistakes were made (it is OK to FAIL as it is our First Attempt In Learning) and learned from and soon enough tamariki were calling out, "Yes!" or "I did it!"  Sweet success!  Fantastic problem solving, resilience and communication Honu!

  2. I heard all about this activity tonight, Aria was super engaged and shared her blog with me. Aria, you will have to tell me how you programmed the Bee Bot. Well done Honu.

    1. It is great to hear that Aria enjoyed the learning we did with these neat little robots. She has published her Bee bot post if you would like to read it, look to the left and you will be able to see her name to access it.
